News -

All of us associated with Wonderland Studios have had another very busy past year -- writing and pitching songs, playing music, touring, spending time with family and friends, and working with some great Texas bands/artists in the studio. We've also had the pleasure of working with many previous clients on various new projects. It's another productive year doing what we love -- Music!

In 2007, we've got a number of projects that we're trying to wrap up, including a few that we started at some point towards the end of 2006. We'll provide updates on some of these as they progress. We try to stay on top of updating this section of our website, but it's often hard to stay up to date when things get so darn busy.

This just in -- We found out that Wonderland Studios got a national mention in the "Southwest Studio News" section of Mix Magazine regarding a few of our projects. You can check it out at Mix Magazine.

Eric McKinney was recently published in Music Biz Acadamy with an article about: The Many Roles of a Successful Project Studio Owner (and how to become an in-demand local producer).

A few projects to mention right here for now. We wrapped up a killer EP with Ironclad -- One of our favorite rock bands tearing up the local Austin scene. Also, upcoming star Lindsay Washer finished cutting her debut CD with us, with our buds from the Shawn Fussell Band laying down really cool basic tracks for the project. Lindsay is a young, extremely talented singer and songwriter -- keep your eyes out for her. Our assistant engineer, Tim "Tank" Casterline, worked with Riax to complete their EP. And we're also in the process of producing tracks with the incredible Kristen Kissling, a top 12 Nashville-Star finalist. In addition, we're working on projects with David Barr, Proteus, The Dealers, Shawn Fussell, Stooch and we finished up some tracks with The Unavailable Catfish. Last but not least, we completed some new tracks with Colin Gilmore, helping to complete his new EP in time for his Japan tour (and honeymoon - Congrats, Colin!).

Some Fun Past Sessions: -- In 2006, we worked with a number of great artists that we'd like to mention here. Leo Rondeau and Wonderland's Eric McKinney worked in the studio many months together co-producing Leo's debut effort. Leo is a fantastic songwriter who's tracked some great tunes and was joined on some tracks by other really incredible musicians such as Brennen Leigh, Seth Hulbert, Cully Symington and stand-up bassist Josh Hoag (from the Asylum Street Spankers).  And Tommy Spurlock, who's played steel guitar on so many cool records (George Jones, Emmylou Harris, Rosanne Cash), tracked some amazing steel guitar parts on some of Leo's songs over here at the studio.  Also contributing performances to Leo's debut was Cindy Cashdollar, who's played with so many great artists (such as the Dixie Chicks, Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Asleep at the Wheel, Van Morrison), cut some really cool dobro tracks with us on some of Leo's kickin' tunes... And Ricky Turpin, who's played with so many folks (George Strait, Asleep at the Wheel) added some incredible fiddle performances. Mario Matteoli and Cary Ozanian from The Weary Boys tracked some killer background vocals, and Mario added some cool guitar licks to one of the tunes. It was a blast working with all of these incredibly talented musicians, sharing stories, laughing, and laying down some great tracks.

More fun sessions in 2006 -- Shawn Fussell and his bandmates worked diligently with Eric towards co-producing Shawn's CD (Made In Texas)... It's a killer blues-rock effort, another fantastic Texas release, already receiving good radio airplay across Texas. Visit Shawn's website and find out how to get yourself a copy.  Jonas, Tim and Jason from The Dealers were back in the studio and worked with Eric on some further tracks for their 2006 EP titled Wonderland Sessions.  They worked very fast and got the new CD together in time for their WI tour, and shortly thereafter some tracks were featured on KLBJ in Austin... Our engineer buddy Bill Palmer assisted with some sessions... We had a blast working with Manager's Choice on the tracks for their 2006 EP release...

Courtney Sanchez and her band cut a few tracks. We also worked with singer-songwriter Jenny Howell, co-producing her debut CD. Eric had a great time playing some guitar parts on Jenny's tunes, and they brought in bass extrodinaire Tim (the tank) Casterline to play some kick-ass bass lines.   Clay Seasons worked on new songs, and recorded some tracks at the studio engineered by Michael Sexton, the band's lead vocalist. In addition, Sexton began working with Wonderland, as a part-time assistant freelance engineer. After many months, Proteus, an extremely talented Austin band wrapped up efforts here for their CD. We also had a great time hanging and working with Peyton Gin. They cut a number of rockin' tracks, and we worked fast to get it mixed in time for their CD to be available at their performance back during SXSW, 2006. Zoeie Ryze has been working on-and-off with Eric to co-produce her debut CD, with plans for it to be released on Texas Time Records upon completion. We've also had a blast working with Gadget White and The Fematics. They cut some cool tracks at the studio...   Additionally, Colin Gilmore and Eric McKinney found a little time here and there to work on some demos of some new material.  J.D. Edens and Eric have been sifting through some previous tracks, and working on further production ideas for the tracks for Edens' CD.  Bryce Alber cut a cool demo track over here, and many other CDs and demos are currently in various stages at the studio... And we were informed from various sources that Wonderland was mentioned on ME Television, 96.7 KISS-FM, 93.7 KLBJ, 98.1 KVET, and 107.1 KGSR regarding some projects we we're working on throughout 2006.

Back in March 2006 we had a fun-filled and tiring SXSW 2006 -- Wonderland's Eric McKinney and Miriam Thompson assisted with sound for Colin Gilmore's showcase, then immediately ran over to the Austin Music Awards, caught performances by Jon Dee Graham, Eliza Gilkyson, Kris Kristofferson, and Jessi Colter. We caught up with a number of friends in town, and managed to catch a ton of artist showcases throughout SXSW week. We were invited to the Frogville Records showcase to catch our buds Hundred Year Flood, then ran downtown to catch up with a friend from Boston and catch the Signature Sounds showcase with the amazing Kris Delmhorst and Mark Erelli. And then we headed right down to MoMo's to catch the incredible Greencards. On SXSW Friday, we attended the Verve Music Group showcase and caught sets by Jackie Greene, the incredible Susan Tedeschi, and Teddy Thompson. We went from there over to Cedar Street Courtyard to catch Sonya Kitchell and a totally amazing set by Brandi Carlile and her kick-ass band. The following day, we went to the Red Panda Records showcase with sets by Mascott, and Jennifer O'Conner joined by Britt Daniels of Spoon. Then we headed over to the Hilton, and caught an interesting set by The Cocker Spaniels. We then met up with a friend who works for Sonicbids, and caught Josh Ritter's showcase at the Eternal. There were so many more showcases we hoped to catch, but this was the biggest SXSW and just so many things going on...

Some previous news -- Early in 2005, we wrapped up recording and mixing efforts for a killer CD we co-produced with Austin's blues-rockers The Dealers. Their CD "Destinations and Angry Love Songs" gained some well deserved attention throughout the southwest and throughout the midwest during their summer tour. Some tracks with another great Austin band, Truth For Leo were cut at Wonderland Studios, and Truth For Leo also worked at Omar Vallejo's studio and completed tracks for their debut CD. Truth For Leo steadily received attention as a top Texas band on myspace.com, and throughout the club circuit of Texas. Their CD was released in Feburary 2006 by Vallejo Music Group. The band members from Truth For Leo are all now working on other various projects. Additionally, another fun previous project was working with Breaking Autumn, a past winner of an Austin Battle of Band's, which finished basic tracks/mixes for their local demo/EP that they released independantly.  And another great time was with Seventh Addition, an extremely talented young Texas band that finished some tracks for their debut CD at the studio, with additional production efforts by Wonderland's own Eric McKinney, and Truth For Leo's Trent Brough.
